Google: Keyword Density Still Not An SEO Search Ranking Factor in 2023

So, it’s 2022, and some people are wondering if keyword density is a Google search ranking element for SEO. According to John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate, the answer is still no.

This was discovered on Reddit two days before the year’s conclusion in 2023. “Do you think keyword density will still be a factor in SEO in 2023?” was the question posed. That was met with a resounding “no” from John Mueller. Yes, that was the only thing he said – no.

This is something John has been saying for at least a decade, if not longer.

As an SEO topic, keyword density is older than Google, and it is one of those topics that will almost certainly never die.

Oh, and if you don’t know what keyword density is, Wikipedia explains it “The ratio of times a term or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page is known as keyword density. Keyword density can be used to identify whether a web page is relevant to a specific keyword or keyword phrase in the context of search engine optimization.”
